That will be the subject of a series of devotionals I will be doing. It's the theme for our church this year, grace and truth:
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)
This series will begin in August; I am taking a hiatus for the rest of July. I am finishing my revised, updated, and expanded hardcover version of my book "Understanding Evangelicals: A Guide to Jesusland"; I will be adding chapters on health care, immigration, and the environment. My prayer is to have it available by the end of September in time for the elections to spur on the evangelical voting bloc to turn out in mass armed with a biblical perspective on what true conservatism is, not the white-washed version the majority of politicians, Republicans primarily, with which to deceive the flock. (The current softcover version is available on Amazon.)
In the pursuit of the truth there must be grace. Truth without grace is a sledgehammer; grace without truth is sugar water. We need both and the Bible teaches us how.
While I am on this hiatus I ask that you begin reading the Gospel of John. There are 21 chapters in John's gospel; if you will read one chapter every day beginning today, then when I begin the devotional again on August 2nd, you will have read through the whole gospel.
Will you commit to do that? Can you carve out 15-20 minutes in the morning before you go to work? Will you do that for Jesus?
I want to share a link to a message from a Lion of the Faith the late Dr. Adrian Rogers; I was listening to it Saturday night on my iPod as I was mowing the yard. Oh did it convict me so. I pray you will listen to it and allow the Holy Spirit free reign in your heart. Here's the link to the message:

May the Lord richly bless you the rest of this July and please know that I will fervently be praying for each of you (229) while I am on my hiatus.
And as an act of commitment I would so love for you to reply to this email and tell me you are committing to read John's Gospel.
In Christ
Dave
