"Victory!", they cried, and the crowd began to boast,
Then they turned to me, and said, "Join us in our toast!"
"I voted for him!", cried one, "I sent money!", cried another!
I looked in the cup, my heart did sink, I cried "What about my unborn brother?"
"Praise, God!" cried one, as "Alleluias" they did sing,
And so I thought, I will take this cup, and offer it to my King!
I raised it up, this "Victory cup", the stem became a reed,
The bowl a dripping sponge, I wondered at this deed!
His Throne became the Cross, He tasted and turned His head,
All at once, this "Victory cup", became a source of dread.
Oh man before you cry "Victory!", before you start to sing,
Consider if this victory, is befitting of Thy King!
